(3/27/2003) Well, well, well... The war has been going on for over a week now, and while there's been a few amusing images, I'm still not very impressed. Certainly not "shocked & awed". I'm extremely disappointed with the American media coverage. With the exception of a couple of explosions and guys shooting buildings, there's been way too little emphasis placed on showing the action. It's quite fucking pathetic when one has to turn to the Arab news channel to get the meaty images of corpses and P.O.W.s. The networks claim that they aren't showing many of the graphic things because it might upset people, especially the families of the soldiers. Isn't that just peachy? All you fucking cock suckers have been clamoring for this war for a long time, but now that you've got it, you don't want to be bothered with any of the gory details? You squeamish, hypocritical fucks! I'd love to rub all your faces into the steaming pile of intestines that fall from an injured soldier's gut wound, just to give you a taste of the reality of what you claim to have wanted. If you think seeing a picture of a dead soldier is so fucking traumatic, try actually BEING that dead soldier. Far too many of you are using that yellow ribbon as a blindfold.
And all your moral hand wringing over the tactics of the Iraqi army is making me sick to my fucking stomach. The deluge of sissy whimpering over the "rules" of war, while predictable, still never ceases to amaze me. In case you weren't aware, the entire purpose of a war is to KILL PEOPLE and BREAK THINGS. Any limits placed on the means to that end can only be a hindrance to that aim. The Iraqi army is facing an invading force made up of the greatest military might on the planet. How can anyone expect them to follow a set of rules made up by the very same forces who are invading them? Why is it "cowardly" for an Iraqi soldier to don civilian clothes in order to avoid being detected, but it's "heroic" for an American soldier to fly a multi-billion dollar stealth jet in order to avoid being detected? During the American Revolution, the British army was upset because the Americans wouldn't follow their rules of war, which basically called for the Americans to line up in neat rows and be shot. But instead of doing the "honorable" thing, i.e. dying like a fool, these "cowardly" American rebels resorted to sniping officers, midnight raids, and other "illegal" guerrilla war tactics. They did what they had to do. And they won a war that, had they followed their attacker's rules, they'd surely have lost. Now, some 225 years later, you actually have the unmitigated gall to get upset when another army does the exact same thing! That yellow ribbon is starting to clash with your Red Coat.
One can argue the morality of using human shields until they're blue in the face, but expecting a country that's still stuck in Biblical times to conform to 21st century Western world ideals is just fucking dumb. But what's even dumber, and infinitely more upsetting, is forcing your own troops, the ones you all claim to support so much, to conform to such restrictive rules of engagement. If Iraqi troops are pretending to surrender, then attacking when our troops move in, STOP TAKING PRISONERS. Kill everything that moves. If the Iraqi army is hiding weapons in hospitals and mosques, START BOMBING HOSPITALS AND MOSQUES. This is the war you wanted. Let our soldiers fight it the way they see fit. If a few (or even a lot) of Iraqi civilians get killed because of it, tough shit. It's their freedom we're fighting for (smirk) after all, some of them will have to die for it. The life of even one American soldier should be worth more than 10,000 Iraqi fuck heads, and their hands must not be tied by the rules of ivory tower dwelling moralists who will never be held to their own standards. The dead body that CNN won't show you probably died as a result of not being allowed to defend itself because it's attacker wasn't wearing an orange vest that said "enemy".
Wearing a yellow ribbon, waving a flag, and bitching about Michael Moore's Oscar speech does nothing to support our troops. Jumping on the war bandwagon makes for a good photo op, but it's an empty gesture. If you honestly want to support the troops, put your time and money where your ribbon is. Donate to the Disabled American Veterans or similar local organization, and lobby congress not to cut veterans' benefits, but increase them. When the war is over and the parades are done, most of you "troop supporters" will move on to whatever the next fad is, while the men and woman who actually put their lives on the line will be lying in substandard veterans' hospitals, broken and forgotten. For their sake, I dare you to prove me wrong. For their sake, I hope you do. But I know you won't. Resorting to symbolism over substance, contrary to popular belief, does not make you a "good American". It simply makes you American.

(3/20/2003) I've got a hard-on for the United States military. I've always enjoyed their previous work, and I'm really looking forward to seeing what new shit they have up their sleeves. Personally, there are other countries that I'd attack before Iraq, but I'll take what I can get. It really seems like a waste to have such an awesome military and not use it, especially when there's so many fucking people that need killing. While I enjoy the dark green night vision city with bright green flashes, I'm really hoping for a lot more full color images of the carnage of war. I was very disappointed by the blue balled Operation: Desert Storm tease. It should have been called Operation: Premature Ejaculation, considering how quickly it was over. Sequels are usually more extravagant than the original, so here's to higher body counts and larger explosions! I just want to make a few points before I go back to watching the war.
1) Saying "I support the troops" is a statement completely void of any substance whatsoever. They can't hear you, and nobody gives a fuck. That kind of statement is the war-time equivalent of saying "How about this weather, huh?". Just empty, safe busy-chatter that dull pricks talk about to complete strangers just for the sake of talking. Of course you support the troops, it's called taxes.
2) There's nothing wrong with having a war for oil. I think it's a great reason. My car doesn't run on peace, and I ain't fucking walking.
3) I've heard many pro-war people say that now that the war has started, all the protesters should just shut up and get with the program. Then, from the other side of their mouths, they say the war is ultimately about freedom. Point.
4) I don't care if people want to protest the war, but GET THE FUCK OUT OF THE STREET! I got places to go, things to do, and no time to do it. Blocking traffic does not produce feelings of peace. In fact, I consider that an act of war.
5) Burning oil fields and bloody dune coons give me a warm, fuzzy feeling all over. Is that so wrong?
